Botox Myths

Botox. Most of us think we know what it is and what it does, but there are also a lot of misconceptions on what Botox is and what it does—and does not do. Over the years, I have heard a lot of misinformation. So let me, Danielle Smith, Aesthetic Nurse Practitioner and Miami botox and filler specialist at smith & co, help you tell the facts from fiction when it comes to Botox.

Myth No. 1:

Botox is Dangerous

Botox is in fact safe and effective. The drug in Botox has been researched for more than a century. It also has FDA approval and is used to treat patients with bladder issues, excessive sweating, migraines and neurological disorders. Not just wrinkles.

Myth No. 2:

Botox Injections Hurt

Yes, Botox is injected with a needle. And yes, needles aren’t always pleasant, but Botox is injected with small needles and only tiny amounts are given. To say it hurts is an exaggeration. The reality is Botox feels more like a pinch than anything.

Myth No. 3:

Botox Results Happen Immediately

Actually, it takes anywhere from 3-10 days to see the results from Botox. It takes time for Botox to relax and reduce facial muscles’ movements.

Myth No. 4:

Botox Lasts Forever

While I wish that was true, sadly, it’s not. Botox results last three to six months. Botox is a commitment of the ongoing variety.

Myth No. 5:

Botox Will Freeze My Face

Botox will only temporarily “freeze” your face if that’s how you want it to look. Your injector has the ability to “freeze” your facial motions per your desire. Remember, the results don’t last forever and more or less can be applied per your desires.

Myth No. 6:

Botox Is Just For Women

Actual, fine lines and aging happen to everyone, which means Botox can help both men and women. Looking and feeling your best is genderless. It’s what everyone wants.

Myth No. 7

Anyone can inject Botox

Botox should only be injected by someone who is trained to inject Botox. Remember, Botox is a drug. And while it is safe and effective, it needs to be administered by someone who is a professional. Someone like me, Danielle Smith, Aesthetic Nurse Practitioner

Myth No. 8

You can build up an intolerance to Botox

Only about .5 percent of patients show any kind of immune response to Botox. And that happens because the body breaks down the Botox injection quicker than most people. But, by and large, most people will not develop any kind of resistance to Botox.

What are Russian Lips?

Lip injections are where it’s at these days. Because, let’s be honest, who doesn’t want fuller, plumper lips? A pretty pout is a beautiful thing. And there’s nothing wrong with a little extra surface area to add gloss. But, with so many different types of fillers and techniques, it’s hard to know who has what or what they did it with. Two popular techniques are the Ashton Technique and Russian Lips. Both are what you are most likely admiring on Instagram these days. And luckily, Danielle Smith, Aesthetic Nurse Practitioner and Miami botox and filler specialist at smith & co, is a master at both lip injection techniques.

So, what’s the difference between the AshtonTechnique and Russian Lips

Well, the Ashton technique for lip injections often uses Kysse and creates a beautiful, natural shape. Kysse is a Restylane lip filler that adds volume, smooths upper lip lines for up to one year and enhances lip color. Think of the Ashton technique as the more toned down of the two, the one that leaves them wondering if those are the lips God or Danielle Smith, Aesthetic Nurse Practitioner gave you. The Ashton Technique has an M shape up top and the more aggressively you pull the top up, the more of a keyhole pout you create.

While Russian Lips also have an M shape up top, they, however, have a more defined keyhole. This is created by pulling up as much as possible on the top lip. Russian lips tend to be much more dramatic. Think of them as full, thick lips without the ducky shelf. And Danielle Smith, Aesthetic Nurse Practitioner prefers to use Defyne for this lip injection technique. Defyne is a hyaluronic acid dermal filler that is both natural looking and lends to move better. Defyne’s results will last up to one year, depending on how your body metabolizes the filler.

So as you’re scrolling through Instagram admiring pouts, keep in mind you’re most likely coveting either the Ashton Technique or Russian Lips. Both of which Danielle Smith, Aesthetic Nurse Practitioner and Miami botox and filler specialist at smith & co. is an artist at creating.

A consultation with Danielle Smith, Aesthetic Nurse Practitioner and Miami botox and filler specialist at smith & co. can offer help if you are interested in perfecting a perfect Ashton Technique or Russian lips pout. Simply reach out for a consultation to find out which lip filler technique works best for you.

Half or Full Syringe? When It Comes to Lips, Which is Best?

Lips, they’re all the rage these days. One scroll through Instagram and it’s obvious these days it’s all about the lips. And what God didn’t give you, Danielle Smith  can. But there are a few things you have to think of first. Like, a full syringe? Or half? Half on the bottom? Full on the top? When it comes to lips, there’s a lot of questions on how much to use and where. To help you sort through it, Danielle Smith, Aesthetic Nurse Practitioner and Miami botox and filler specialist at smith & co, offers a look at the difference between half a syringe and full, as well as the latest in lip fillers. If it’s your lips you are looking to plump up or reshape, Smith will help you find what works best for your face.

One of her favorite new fillers is Restylane Kysse. It adds volume, smooths upper lip lines for up to a year. It even enhances lip color. When adding 1 syringe using the Ashton technique, Smith can create a beautiful oval 50/50 shape, with a round center and a longer shape with a sweet keyhole pout. She is also able to create pouty round shapes with a 50/50 ratio and an M shape Cupid’s bow. This shape takes on more of the typical Russian lip technique. Using one full syringe is a great way to add subtle fullness, create a nice lip lift and add additional fullness to the other lip as well.

When it comes to half a syringe, using Kysse and the Ashton technique is perfect for giving top lips a nice lip lift and increasing the surface area. She can also do the same using Defyne, which is similar to Kysse, but with bigger molecules (aka a fuller look). Smith likes to call Defyne Kysse’s big sister. If you want a fuller look with half of a syringe, this is the way to go.

Below are examples of both half and full syringes. It’s best to start with half and work your way up to a full syringe. She likes building onto the lips over time to create the look you are hoping to achieve. Depending on how you want the enhancement to turn out, she can discuss which filler is right for you.

Remember, a consultation with Danielle Smith, Aesthetic Nurse Practitioner and Miami botox and filler specialist at smith & co. can offer help if you are interested in creating a perfect pout. Simply reach out for a consultation today.

Jawline contouring and tightening with jowl lifting 😉 Here we used 6 PDO threads to soften her oral commisures (marionettes), tighten her jowls and tighten her jawline. These photos are immediately post procedure. She will continue to see improvement up to 6 months and they will last 14-18 months. A “re-up” is recommended at 6-8months to maintain and improve on results. The re-up will require 1/2 to 2/3 the # of threads as the initial treatment. Then do your second round at 18months using the re-up dose.
Barb Threads are $250/thread. Procedure time is 30-45min. Recovery - some swelling for 3-5 days. Soreness (the tissue repositioning will create soreness) for 1-2 weeks. For more pricing details checkout my price menu on my site.

Freshly Snatched Thanks to Contour

Contour—you can spend hours in front of the mirror perfecting the perfect jawline and sculpting cheeks with makeup. Or, you can let Danielle Smith, Aesthetic Nurse Practitioner and Miami botox and filler specialist at smith & co give you contour that lasts. Thanks to fillers like Juvederm Ultra Plus, Restylane LYFT or Voluma, Danielle Smith can create cheeks that won’t wash off when you remove your makeup.

In fact, contour with Voluma can last up to two whole years. And, the more product you give Danielle Smith to work with, the better your results will be. This can be accomplished with a mix filler, Botox, Kybella and PDO threads.

If you’re looking to enhance your chin, consider 1 to 3 syringes of filler. This will run you anywhere from $600 to $800, depending on your desired results.

If it’s your jawline you’re looking to get freshly snatched, you’ll need 1 to 3 syringes, which will be between $600 and $1,800.

Jawline sharpening takes 1 to 2 syringes plus 20 units of Botox and will run between $840 to $1,440.

As you’re scrolling through Instagram you see that perfect jawline, those model-esque cheeks and that lifted look, don’t automatically chalk it up to good genes. With fillers, Botox and PDO threads, women (and men) everywhere are able to achieve a profile they are happy to show off.

Over the years, you can see that pics of Jennifer Lopez from the ‘90s look very different than pics of her today and it’s all thanks to contour. Kate Moss is another celebrity who, as the years have gone on has magically become more contoured. Tyra Banks is another whose pics from the ‘90s prove contour is one of this decade’s most popular trends.

A consultation with Danielle Smith, Aesthetic Nurse Practitioner and Miami botox and filler specialist at smith & co. can offer help if you are interested in creating a perfectly contoured face. Simply reach out for a consultation to find out what works best for you.

Instagram Lips With Kysse + the Ashton Technique

Instagram lips are all the rage. You know the ones: Big, pouty pillows that pucker just right and look amazing in gloss. But it takes more than excess lip liner to perfect that perfect pout. Get the lips you’re looking for with Danielle Smith, Aesthetic Nurse Practitioner and Miami botox and filler specialist at smith & co and her Kysse + Ashton Technique. Whether it’s full and plump, natural and conservative, balanced for symmetry, creating shape and definition, changing details (like defined vs. round Cupid’s bow), keyhole pouts, 50/50 vs. 55/45 vs. 45/55 vs. 40/60 symmetry, long vs pouty—you name it, Danielle Smith can do it. All except for duck lips, though. She doesn’t do those.

Kysse plus the Ashton Technique creates a beautiful, natural shape. Unlike Juvederm Ultra Plus, Kysse creates a crispness and definition to the shape. This happens because the molecule is a bit more precise. Kysse is a Restylane lip filler that adds volume, smooths upper lip lines for up to one year and enhances lip color. Designed specifically for the movement of lips, Restylane Kysse is made with XpresHAn Technology's innovative cross-linking gel for precise, natural-looking results. Results generally last one year.  There will be some swelling, which should subside in a few days. Bruising can also occur, but you can help decrease the chances of bruising by avoiding taking Advil seven days before your service.

If your goal is to increase the surface area of the top lip and create a defined Cupid’s bow, Kysse + the Ashton Technique will help. With a half syringe you will get a great shape, but not a lot of volume. With a full syringe, the end result will be more full.

Not into a size-able pout but want to take your thin lips and transform them a bit? “When working with smaller lips, we have to go slow and take as much as the tissue will give. I often will not know how aggressive we can be until I am in and can feel the tissue. Then, I am able to make the transformation,” Danielle Smith, Aesthetic Nurse Practitioner and Miami botox and filler specialist at smith & co., says.

A consultation with Danielle Smith, Aesthetic Nurse Practitioner and Miami botox and filler specialist at smith & co. can offer a help if you are interested in lip filler. Simply reach out for a consultation to find out what works best for you.

Giving You a Hand: Restylane is for hands, too

They say the one thing that always gives away your age every time is your hands. But now there’s something you can do about it. And Smith & Co is here to help.

Restylane, a mid-to-deep injectable, is used to correct moderate to severe wrinkles and folds. The hyaluronic acid filler is FDA approved for hands, so now you can use it to erase wrinkles and folds in your hands. As we age, the skin on the hands tends to lose volume. And when that happens, wrinkles set in. Unfortunately, we can’t wear gloves all the time to hide it. Nor should you have to. It’s nothing a little Restylane can’t fix.

Below is a photo where Danielle Smith, Aesthetic Nurse Practitioner and Miami botox and filler specialist at smith & co used four syringes of Restylane (two in each hand) to restore volume and rejuvenate the appearance of the hands. And look at those results—simply flawless.

The procedure takes about 30 minutes and the pain is minimal. Recovery, however, includes minimal bruising and swelling for a day or two. But in the end, what you will be left with is beautiful skin that looks like the “hands” of time have officially been turned back. The results will leave your hands looking ageless. So go ahead, gesture too much. Point. Wave. Your hands have never looked better.

Danielle Smith, Aesthetic Nurse Practitioner and Miami botox and filler specialist at smith & co. says, “It’s a simple process that makes a huge difference. Clients who try this treatment are immediately obsessed with it.”

The price for this procedure is $600 a syringe. Results last up to eight months.

A consultation with Danielle Smith, Aesthetic Nurse Practitioner and Miami botox and filler specialist at smith & co. can offer a helping hand if you are interested in more youthful-looking hands. Simply reach out for a consultation to find out what works best for you.

Get Lifted with PDO Thread Lifts

Madonna, Kim Kardashian, Gwyneth Paltrow, Bella Hadid, Kendall Jenner and Emily Ratajkowski are all rumored to have done it. And now you can, too, at Smith & Co. So what is it you and these A-list celebs could potentially have in common?

PDO thread lifts

Thread lifts are a non-surgical procedure for bowls, tightening the jawline and neck and lifting eyebrows. And it’s taking the beauty world by storm. So how does it work, exactly? It’s a lift. A lift that builds collagen. A lift that builds collagen that only takes 30-45 minutes.

And, yes, it’s real.

PDO thread lifts can be done on brows to help gain more real estate above the eyes. Think more space to apply eyeshadow. A procedure using eight PDO threads costs around $2,000.

Barb threads can be done to lift nasolabial folds, cheeks, oral commisures (marionettes, jowls and to tighten jawlines. A procedure like this costs $250 a thread. And it’s face-changing to say the least.

Danielle Smith, Aesthetic Nurse Practitioner and Miami botox and filler specialist at smith & co. says patients will begin to see improvement for up to 6 months and will last 14 to 18 months. A “re-up” is recommended at 6 to 8 months to maintain and even improve on the results. That follow-up procedure requires ½ to ⅔ the number of threads used in the original treatment. Patients will then need to do their second round at the 18 month mark, using the “re-up” dose. Procedure time is around 30 to 45 minutes.

PDO thread lifts are ideal for anyone who wants to lift and tighten but isn’t quite ready to take the plunge into a face lift.

So, we know you are wondering: What is the recovery time for this non-facelift lift procedure like? Patients can expect mild swelling for three to five days. Soreness will result from tissue repositioning and will last one to two weeks. But as a result of your procedure you will grow collagen, lift, look and feel like the best version of yourself, all without having to go under the knife.

Hurray for PDO thread lifts.

A consultation with Danielle Smith, Aesthetic Nurse Practitioner and Miami botox and filler specialist at smith & co. Danielle can help guide you in an uplifting direction when it comes to PDO thread lifts. Simply reach out to her to see what PDO thread lifts can do for you.

Say Hello to Sculptra Butt Lift

Want a better butt?

Don’t we all?

Squats are great, but there’s an easier way.

However, not all of us are willing to go under the knife to get one.

But now there’s no need to undergo plastic surgery to get the backside you desire. You can get a better butt with Sculptra. Yes, Sculptra. The Sculptra Butt Lift is a new technique that can not only give you booty gains, it can also fill in those pesky hip dips that no amount of leg lifts and squats can fix.

A consultation with Danielle Smith, Aesthetic Nurse Practitioner and Miami botox and filler specialist at smith & co. Danielle can help guide you in an uplifting direction when it comes to a Sculptra Butt Lift. In the pics below, she injected 12 vials of Sculptra to build volume and natural collagen and enhance the shape of the client’s butt. Sculptra is a biostimulant that promotes your own collagen growth. It takes 8 weeks to see full results, and you’ll need to daily massage the areas for five minutes five times a day for the first five days after your injections.

The downtime is the area may bruise and be slightly tender, but that should subside within a week. And when you consider the benefits, a week of hardly any downtime is so much better than anything plastic surgery can offer.

Danielle Smith, Aesthetic Nurse Practitioner and Miami botox and filler specialist at smith & co. says to cover the full butt, she recommends a minimum of 10 vials of Sculptra. The price is $5,000. However, if you’re just looking to fill in the hip dip area only, Sculptra can be injected for $3,500. Again, the results will take around 8 weeks to see the injections in full. The good news, though, is that Sculptra promotes your own collagen growth, so you can expect a few permanent results as part of the process.

For more on the Sculptra Butt Lift, reach out to Danielle Smith, Aesthetic Nurse Practitioner and Miami botox and filler specialist at smith & co. for a full consultation.

Brotox: Because Men Need Botox, Too

If you think Botox is only for women, think again. Increasingly, more men are getting Botox. In fact, according to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, “Botox was the top nonsurgical procedure for men in 2017, with over 160,000 men receiving Botox injections.” So much so, it’s taken on its own moniker: Bro-tox.

So why are more and more men turning to Botox? For starters: It’s a non-surgical solution for wrinkles and fine lines. It also noticeably enhances your appearance. And it boosts self-confidence. Basically, the same reasons women get Botox are the reasons men want Botox, too. Looking and feeling good isn’t gender specific. Everyone wants to put their best face forward.

If you’re a man thinking about Botox, consider a consultation with Danielle Smith, Aesthetic Nurse Practitioner and Miami botox and filler specialist at smith & co. Danielle can help guide you in which areas need the most attention.

So what is Botox? Botulinum toxin destroys nerves and vital proteins. When injected, it weakens muscle contractions by blocking signals between facial muscles and nerves. By weakening muscle contractions, the skin above the muscle can remain smooth and wrinkle-free. Men with crow’s feet and forehead wrinkles will notice it’s like they’ve been erased once Botox is injected (give or take 3-10 days to set in).

Just as men are looking to Botox to turn back the hands of time, filler can also help men achieve the look they desire. In fact, Men’s Health reports since 2017, 20 percent more men are getting fillers in their cheeks, jawlines and temples. If filler is something you’re considering, let Danielle Smith, Aesthetic Nurse Practitioner and Miami botox and filler specialist at smith & co. suggest what would work best and where.

Go ahead, treat yourself to a little Bro-tox and more.

No More Lash Extensions? No Problem. Meet Latisse.

During Quarantine, many of us with lash extensions found ourselves missing something we’ve got quite used to: long, dramatic lashes. As our extensions slowly fell out, one by one, we came to grips with what those extensions left behind: weak, brittle, stubby lashes. And for many of us, we realized we have done a great disservice to our lashes in having those extensions. If you have decided to give up lash extensions for a long time, a short time or any time at all, consider using Latisse. Even if you return back to lashes extensions, if you so choose, you can continue to use Latisse to help reverse the effects of lash extensions by helping your natural lashes grow thick and strong. Curious how Latisse works? Danielle Smith, Aesthetic Nurse Practitioner and Miami botox and filler specialist at smith & co explains.

How does Latisse work?

You apply a thin coat on the base of the lash line once a day.

How long does it take to see results?

You will start to see the results of Latisse in around 16 weeks. Although, some people have seen results as quickly as four weeks.

What kind of results can be expected from Latisse?

Clinical studies have demonstrated 106% fuller lashes after 16 weeks. Seventy-eight percent of users saw a significant increase in overall eyelash prominence. Lashes grew both 25 percent longer and 18 percent darker.

What makes Latisse work?

Latisse’s active ingredient is bimatoprost, which makes lash growth possible. Latisse is believed to affect the growth (anagen) phase of the eyelash hair cycle in two ways: it increases the length of this phase, but it also increases the number of hairs in this growth phase. It is the only product on the market that has this active ingredient.

What happens if you stop using Latisse?

Lashes go back to their original state.

The secret to Latisse is continual use, which will lead to continual growth. And long, thick lashes is what ever girl wants. If you want to give Latisse a try, talk with Danielle Smith, Aesthetic Nurse Practitioner and Miami botox and filler specialist at smith & co. It’s available at her office.

We binge watched basically all of Netflix. And we kept our wits about us by laughing as much as we could. It was the endless memes that kept our spirits up. So we decided to pay homage to those memes by collecting them and putting them right here in one place where you can stop by and chuckle when you need to lift your spirits. The Contour That Doesn't Wash Off

Guest blogger Ginger Harris shares her love affair with Voluma:

Contour. That’s fun, until you live in Miami and the humidity starts to cause your to sweat in a way that makes your contour slide down your face. And since winter never actually comes to Miami, I’ve found a better way to make my contour last—with Voluma. I visited Danielle, Botox specialist at Smith & Co, and she injected the filler into my cheeks to give me fantastic cheek contour. It took effect immediately. And I love the look. It lasts for around a year, so there’s no need to rush back after just a few months. Contour that doesn’t wash off is a must in Miami. For so many reasons. If you’re looking for something that goes the distance and makes you feel like you are putting your best face forward, then I suggest reaching out to Smith & Co for a consultation. From now until February 29, there’s a special on Voluma. Check out the photos below to see the many other things you can do with Voluma, should you want to stock up on the deal.

You can reach Danielle at 305-393-2311 or online here.

Kybella

What it is: A fat modulator made up of a substance the body naturally secretes in the GI tract to break down fat cells. Unlike the deoxycholic acid that occurs in the body, Kybella is plant-based, which can lead to less allergies or irritations. It permanently kills fat cells, dissolves them, tightening skin and improving contour.

Where it goes: The submental area (aka the fat pouch under the chin).

How long it lasts: Full results require treatments every four weeks with between two and six sessions. Those results, while not instant, are permanent.

Volbella, Restyalne, Juvederm, Lyft and Voluma

What it is: Volbella, Restyalne, Juvederm, Lyft, and Voluma are injectable hyaluronic acid dermal fillers. The different products represent different sized molecules that range from very small to large (listed in order with Volbella as the smallest, Voluma as the largest). We used the different sized molecules based on the type of tissue we are injecting and the desired result.

Where it goes: The smallest particle Volbella is optimal for very fine lines and wrinkles. It can be used for wrinkles around the mouth and lip lines, you can even use it for some stubborn crows feet or forehead lines. Restyalne and Juvederm are optimal for lips or soft tissue fillers, like deeper lines and folds. Restylane is ideal for a more conservative lip augmentation, where Juvederm is better for a fuller lip augmentation. Lyft and Voluma are ideal for contouring cheeks and jawlines.

How long it lasts: Expect these fillers to last anywhere from 7 to 12 months with Voluma lasting up to 2 years.

This new technique flips and turns up the lip. It uses anywhere from one to one-and-a-half syringes of Juvederm Ultra Plus to obtain the desired look. She will work with you to create the lips of your dreams.

Another way to get those fuller, celebrity shaped lips you crave is by building on them. One recent client built upon her injections for two years, using a total of five syringes of Juvederm Ultra Plus to create the lips of her dreams. In doing this, her transition appeared natural.

Make Your Studs Proud With Earlobe Rejuvenation

Those chunky gold earrings you insisted wearing nearly every day for a whole summer, yup, those were probably the culprit. If heavy earrings mixed with aging left your lobes like that song lyric you sang a kid: “Do your ears hang low …” don’t stress. There’s a way to fix the earlobe droop chunky earrings or aging left in their wake. And it’s as easy as a syringe of fillers

Over time, the weight of heavy earrings and/or loss of collagen because of aging can weigh your earlobes down, causing the skin to sag and lose volume. Oftentimes, it makes earlobes lose elasticity, causing “sagging”, “flat” or “droopy” earlobes, which can also make wearing earrings difficult. If this is something you’ve experienced, stop hiding your ears behind your hair. It’s time for a lobe liftDanielle Smith, Aesthetic Nurse Practitioner and Miami botox and filler specialist at Smith & Co. is ready to help you make your studs proud again with earlobe restoration.

Danielle Smith’s earlobe restoration is designed to replenish your earlobe volume loss. smith & co.’s earlobe rejuvenation procedure is simple and uses dermal fillers to restore volume loss. While each patient varies in their specific needs, Danielle Smith will work with you to develop a treatment plan that best meets your needs.

Who is a good candidate for earlobe rejuvenation?

Anyone experiencing volume loss that causes sagging, drooping or a flat appearance to their earlobes is a candidate for earlobe rejuvenation. While this is a natural part of aging, earrings that lack a good backing can speed up the process.

What if I have torn earlobes?

Patients experiencing a torn earlobe will require a simple surgical repair. Dermal fillers to re-volumize the earlobe may be required after the simple surgical repair.

Treatment options for drooping earlobes

Danielle Smith, Miami Aesthetic Nurse Practitioner, uses dermal filler for earlobe rejuvenation. This procedure can be completed in as little as one treatment session. Dermal fillers used will vary based on the patient’s needs. The amount of volume loss you have experienced will determine the amount of volume replacement you require.  Your specific needs and expectations will determine the course of your treatment plan. Danielle Smith NP will work with you to develop a plan that works best for your earlobes.
