From Botox to Kybella to Voluma, here is everything you ever wanted to know about injectables.
Kybella
What it is: A fat modulator made up of a substance the body naturally secretes in the GI tract to break down fat cells. Unlike the deoxycholic acid that occurs in the body, Kybella is plant-based, which can lead to less allergies or irritations. It permanently kills fat cells, dissolves them, tightening skin and improving contour.
Where it goes: The submental area (aka the fat pouch under the chin).
How long it lasts: Full results require treatments every four weeks with between two and six sessions. Those results, while not instant, are permanent.
Volbella, Restyalne, Juvederm, Lyft and Voluma
What it is: Volbella, Restyalne, Juvederm, Lyft, and Voluma are injectable hyaluronic acid dermal fillers. The different products represent different sized molecules that range from very small to large (listed in order with Volbella as the smallest, Voluma as the largest). We used the different sized molecules based on the type of tissue we are injecting and the desired result.
Where it goes: The smallest particle Volbella is optimal for very fine lines and wrinkles. It can be used for wrinkles around the mouth and lip lines, you can even use it for some stubborn crows feet or forehead lines. Restyalne and Juvederm are optimal for lips or soft tissue fillers, like deeper lines and folds. Restylane is ideal for a more conservative lip augmentation, where Juvederm is better for a fuller lip augmentation. Lyft and Voluma are ideal for contouring cheeks and jawlines.
How long it lasts: Expect these fillers to last anywhere from 7 to 12 months with Voluma lasting up to 2 years.
Botox & Dysport
What it is: Botox and Dysport are neurotoxins. But you probably know them best as wrinkle relaxers that diminish the appearance of fine lines of the upper face. It works by softening contraction of the underlying muscle and decreases overlying wrinkles.
Where it go: Botox and Dysport go around the eyes, between brows and in the forehead.
How long it last: Botox and Dysport start anywhere from three to five days after being injected and lasts anywhere from three to four months.
